Huawei Announces Major AI Training Upgrade Ahead of iPhone 16 Launch
TMTPOST--Huawei unveiled a three-way foldable phone on Tuesday, aiming to expand its lead over Apple in the world's largest smartphone market with a cutting-edge design that has gained traction in China.
Just hours after Apple introduced its latest iPhone, Huawei launched its new Z-shaped Mate XT smartphone at a highly anticipated event.
As of Tuesday, Huawei's website showed that the new device had attracted more than 3.3 million pre-orders.
Meanwhile, the company announced on its official WeChat account that it has achieved a breakthrough in AI model training with its Ascend AI cloud services. The company has extended the uninterrupted training duration for trillion-parameter models from 2.8 days to 40 days—over 13 times improvement—while reducing cluster recovery time from 60 minutes to just 10 minutes. Huawei’s Ascend AI cloud services now support over 100 major industry AI models.
Huawei Cloud’s Pangu Model 5.0, featuring domestic AI technology, is operational in over 30 industries and 400 scenarios. It offers a comprehensive range of models from billion-parameter to trillion-parameter scales, tailored to various industry needs.
Additionally, its multimodal models excel in understanding and generating content across different data types—text, images, video, radar, infrared, and remote sensing—according to the laws of the physical world. Enhanced by cognitive chain and strategic search technologies, these models also show improved mathematical capabilities and complex task planning.
Huawei Cloud CEO Zhang Pingan highlighted in April that the next decade would be pivotal for China's core technology innovation, aiming to build a new, innovative, reliable, and neutral tech ecosystem. Huawei Cloud plans to further invest in AI technologies to serve as the foundation for industry digitalization.
